McCain would be nice choice for Vp - on the democratic ticket. But the only thing he's done for the republican party in the last few months is fractured it. Alright folks, now what? We can call and blog and write letters till we're purple in the face but the majority are not voting principles, their vote is cast via some other criteria.
I cannot imagine the Thompson, Tancredo and Hunter supporters are going to just roll over. Alan Keyes is still in the running but not much.
Are we waiting for Fred to be the announced VP? And what can he do in that position? They're glorified ambassadors. He'll get a little face time for a run in four years, but there's not much upside unless McCain becomes incapacitated (which ideologically he already is).
We can run a Coulter route and vote Hillary to smack the GOP heirarchy upside the head. Its a cut your nose to spite your face move.
So our bumper stickers are....
"I cut my nose and voted Hillary".. "I held my nose and voted MCain" "I voted FRED THOMPSON and some RINO"
O.K.,msgbd master, who are we attacking and what's the plan?

This is gotta be a nightmare for this to be even brought up. Firstly, there is nothing out there for me in either major party or, for that matter a candidate, that is presenting anything close to my conservative conviction. Sure, there is the rhetoric of conservatism, but given the voting history of all, and particularly the recent past voting and positions of McCain, we have nothing to convictively support other than our own conscience and convictions, and then let the political chips fall as they may. I will suffer the consequences of my single vote, as will the nation collectively with their decision. This election WILL be a turning point for the nation. What direction that turn makes I do not know.

To Thine Own Self Be True.
I thought that this was the essence of western philosophy. And the core reason why we were taught from the cradle that the path to safety, in the long run, is always the path of principle.
And so, why are we now being encouraged to take another path entirely, which holds out this new truism, To Thine Own Party Be True. If your Party, and the candidate thereof, embodies your principles, support the party. Unity around good principles is a good thing. But if your Party takes the hand of a known traitor to its principles, this is like an invitation to bungy jumping without a bungy cord. Take his hand if you like. But don't be deceived. Both of you will get spattered on the ground below. That is the message that has always emanated from First Principle. Betray your principles, and it is always a losing situation. It never fails. This is the timeless wisdom which Fred Thompson referred to so many times.

Agreed, Mac is not a viable candidate and he has done a great deal to further the far left on too many fields. I can't even see him as a moderate.
The "conservatives" are not going to just roll over. I know I'm not, though I've been considering "what best for the country" I still cannot say a RINO is, and there is no one else left.
Fred as a VP would be absolutely useless. In my eyes a VP slot for him would mark him as a RINO by association for any future run. My opinion is that the Dems will have the Presidency and the best thing we can do now is fight for all of the other offices up for grabs.
I don't think Ann will actually campaigner for Hillary, she was trying to get across just how much she was against McCain, but I could be wrong on that.
tnpi is actually asking what our plan is as far as "Does our message/strategy need to change? I think our goal is the same.
David? Anyone care to weigh in? What are everyone's thoughts on the best direction to take to get the message out "We're not gonna take it anymore?

Thank you lshaw.. you know me well. Its the goofiest thing I've ever said. If Fred is not on the ticket - I'm voting Fred for sure!!! If he is on the ticket with MCain, then I'm voting for...(?) That's all it comes down to. Whether or not he's on McCain's ticket. If he is I'm just not sure I have the strength of conviction to pull the lever. But if many believe the VP exposure will push Fred into the limelight for a run in four years then I'll agree to it.

As I remember Fred was not interested in a 2nd position. When asked directly about a McCain/Thompson he said maybe the other way 'round. He could very well accept a VP from McCain-Great for us. But I don't think McCain is looking for 2 terms.Am I wrong on this, let me know. This could very well be the best effort to elect Fred to POTUS in 2012.Our mission to Stand Strong may well be to do just that.Tread water with McCain instead of drowning with Hillary.

Two things have to happen first and one of them I don't see happening.
1. McCain would have to announce Fred as his VP.
2. McCain would have to announce he will only take the POTUS position for one term. Here's where I see the problem. Why on earth would a president want to start his first 4 years as a lame duck. If he only wants 4 years then any agenda he wants to push will never go anywhere. Every president comes into office with some sort of an agenda.
So, what can we do? I still think voting our convictions will be the only path for us in this election. Sure, vote for as many conservatives we can for House and Senate seats, but write-in Fred.
Another big reason why I would take this route is this... Many of the GOP base will not be voting for McCain so he has NO chance at winning. Just look at the numbers that have come out for the Dems so far in the primaries. It's almost 20 million votes to date, whereas Republicans have only brought out 12 million. This alone tells me we are in deep doo-doo. Also add in the fact that many Romney supporters are threatening to write-in Mitt, and I would bet my last dollar that Ron Paul voters are going to do the same.
I still say Obama becomes our next POTUS. I don't like the idea, just reading the Tea Leaves.
